I've come across this notion of a slow January a few times recently, and I wonder how it was not always the default way of seeing January?? It just makes SO much sense!
Thank you for this post, Selina, and all the Slowanuary ideas! I was not planning on having a very busy January anyway, but was also not seeing it as a warm-up month and this perspective is very helpful :)
Right? Doesn't it seem the most natural thing in the world to start slow and in stillness. And I'm relieved frankly, because the other way of doing Jan was exhausting! 😂
I’m in the Southern hemisphere Australia it’s summer hot days and holidays it’s very easy to go slow in January lazy days, reading, swimming at the beach and local pool. walks in nature and picnics in the park. I also use January to slowly declutter and do a deep clean of the kitchen
Ooh that is so interesting, so even in the heat and sunshine it works to take Jan slow. The warm up month for everyone! Love it. Enjoy those lazy summer days. Actually I like to have a Slow Down Summer too 🥰
This makes total sense - Slowanuary. December was a bit of a whirlwind. It often is, but this one even more so as I had been quite ill for a few weeks from November into December. Christmas shopping was really quite rushed. Aaanyway…a slower January is very much needed. I’m still working on my Goodbye, Hello book, so the big share not happening straight away is a good thing! 🙌🏼🌟
Happy new year selina! Love this slowanuary and taking the pressure off! I loved working through your journal and also biight copies for my two best friends. Its going to become our annual ritual to fill them in together. Love working with you.
Loving the idea of Slowanuary - I could feel the pressure easing just listening to this! I’m back at work Monday after 2 weeks off and I know it’s going to busy from the off but I’m going to do my upmost to ease into it gently! I’m looking forward to putting some (if not all!) of your Slowanuary suggestions into practice! 😁❤️
I'm so on board with this! I've been winding down since November and feel like I've hit peak hibernation mode this week. Definitely not the time for me to try a high-energy start to the year!
It went well! Ideally I like to go through sections, but sometimes I just allot myself some time to get through as much as I can, with lots of thinking in between!
Happy New Year, Selina. Naturally, I did not order a copy of the Hello 2025 journal in time but I am wondering it possible to have a copy shipped from the UK to the US?
Hi Paul, I'm a last minuter too! I CAN post it from the UK, but it's about $10 for postage I think. Let me know if you want me to and I can find out the exact price - DM me so I can check what it is based on your address x
Thank you for responding so quickly. I don't mind paying for the shipping, Selina. While I have no problem at all with digital consumption, there's just something about a physical copy... My biggest concern, however, is: How, exactly, do I DM you?
It's so silly to think we have the energy to go and chase all our goals in the darkest, coldest and longest month of the year (in the Northern hemisphere). At least, I don't...
I love this idea of January as a warm-up month. It makes total sense!
I’ve had a ‘gentle January’ for the last six or so years and it’s everything Slowanuary is and I’m so here for it. Even given my gentle Jan approach, I was still about to sit here tonight on the sofa despite my eye lids closing after day one back at work. I’m heeding slowanuary tips and off for an early night, permission and licence given!
I'm retired now and have been for several years. I still feel guilty if I don't fill my days with constant activity, I feel that I'm being lazy. In my upbringing being perceived as being lazy, particularly as a woman, was a terrible sin. I realise now I was never lazy, that I needed the time to stand and stare. Thank you for your wise words.
Oh Georgina yes - ‘I needed the time to stand and stare’. We don’t gaze out of the window enough doing nothing. Do you know I’m going to put my phone down right now and I’m going to sit and stare out at the rain and just BE. Also I wrote an article about the importance of being lazy a while back…it will be in my Archive x

I’m with you Selina, January is slooow for me too, I’m still hibernating! Happy New Year! ✨
And I shall carry on hibernating until early March I think 😂
The basic blocks of wellbeing. Fucking YES Selina! 💙💙

Ooooh Bonnie! This has made my day 🥰😭🥹 LOVE that you're going to do it as an annual ritual with your friends every year too! Love working with YOU xxx

I have a fair amount of work on myself, so it's about finding the POCKETS to hibernate and go slow I think 😉 we can cheer one another on!
Absolutely! 😀

Peak hibernation mode...how delicious! x
Yes yes yes! Love this! 👍🥰
I just finished the first portion of the journal this morning. I love the idea of January being a "warm up" month!
Oh did you? How did it go? I love to go through it in sections - a different section a day or every couple of days 😍

But also there is a digital version! x

Thank you so much Selina. I will go and have a look at your 'lazy' article. I'm fed up with feeling guilty. I'm currently watching the snow fall.
Oof that guilt - we have to watch it. It can really spoil all our fun. Let's get back to staring out the window and watching the snow fall 🥰
